Laphroaig 10 year old malt whisky is distilled on the remote island of Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland. Laphroaig, pronounced "La-froyg", it translates from a Gaelic word meaning "the beautiful hollow by the broad bay".
In the production of Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat fire is found only on Islay and it is this fire that gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour.
Best drunk neat Laprhoaig has earthy aromas of blue peat smoke, a sweet nuttiness from the barley, a delicate heathery perfume of Islay's streams.
